NDP

The NDP started off not quite as I expected it to, as we were delayed by thirty minutes, and Mrs Tay even told us to be there at 2 o'clock sharp so as not to miss the bus, as the bus would leave immediately, and latecomers would not be entertained. But being late was made up for with the funpacks, but for some people it was not so great, as the funpacks were pink! Luckily, I managed to snag a blue one. It was a little bit smaller than I thought, as I could not fit my bags inside, so I had carry three bags. On the bus, there were not enough seats so we had to squeeze three people into one row! When we got there, we got out of the bus and walked all the way to the floating platform. We sat in rows and I sat next to Jonathan and Jason(Tzu Kang). We again had to wait, this time for the other schools to arrive so that the show could start. We were very excited. The show started off with "Ah Ben" trying to recite the pledge. After three tries, he finally got it right. Several people then came onto the stage, and told us to search our funpacks, and take out several items. We then practiced drumming using our mini drums to welcome the "ministers". After that, we tried to do the Marina wave faster than a motorcycle and then a car. We were almost totally uncoordinated. The Red Lions squadron then soared through the air and dropped off several people who landed on the floating platform. It was exciting to see people drop out of planes and soar to the ground like birds. They then did play on the story of Singapore. Later in the play, they then acted out bomb threat, full with news reports and fire trucks, culminating into a marine chase, with the speedboats even spouting out sparks. After that, they had a parade to celebrate the victory. The soldiers took out their rifles, charged with only gunpowder, and fired the into the air and a floating platform fired its cannons. There were several screams and shouts of excitement and fear. The excitement was palpable. They later had a march, with people from various groups marching through. After that, they had a video on Singapore's history. Singers and dancers then dominated the stage, singing all sorts of songs. Then, it suddenly started to drizzle. Umbrellas of different colours popped up and people hastily put on their ponchos. Just as we were halfway through the Pledge, it started to pour in torrents of rain, as if someone had poured a bucket of water on us. It then led to a flood, and the water was up to my ankles, my shoes were wet, I was drenched despite having an umbrella and my bags were very, very wet. Mrs Tan then held a pink balloon up in the air, so that we would not get lost and there were cries of "Follow the pink balloon!". When we got to the bus stop, we had to wait for the bus. When we got in, it was freezing cold. I quickly sat next to Trevor and shut the air-con vents.
It was a very memorable, enjoyable, exciting and interesting National Day, as it was my first time going there. I think it achieved the objective of " Come together, Reaching Out, Reaching Up". I can see myself contributing to Singapore and I will work hard to help to achieve this dream which I too believe in.

Would I like to live in Ancient Greece as a male? Of course! Back then, men ruled. It would be nice to live there. However, there is one thing that I would not like. No scientific and technological advances! What would I do then???
